You must update the firmware using a Brother driver, instead of a generic driver and ensure that it is not set to a web services port (WSD). The firmware cannot be updated if you are printing using printer sharing and the Brother machine is connected to a different computer. If you can't print, then the firmware update will fail, so troubleshoot the printing issue first. Once starting the firmware update process do not restart or turn off your computer until the process completes.īefore You Begin: Make sure that you can print by attempting to print a test page. This firmware update process may take up to 15 minutes. The information and installation notes will be displayed after clicking on "Download and Information" during the download process.
We strongly recommend that you read the installation notes before running the firmware update tool.
Please note that updating your firmware will delete some data such as secured print data and more. Note: Mobile users can attempt to update firmware using the Iprint & Scan application if your model is supported as an alternative but we strongly recommend using a Windows or Mac computer with a direct USB connection whenever possible as a network interruption during a firmware update could damage your printer. If your operating system is not supported then the Firmware Update Tool will not be listed in the downloads section for you machine on the Brother downloads website.
